Joseph Simhon was born in 1985 into construction as father and developer David Simhon brought Joseph to construction sites in Canada at a young age. Helping with menial tasks Joseph always said he wanted to be a builder like his dad when he was growing up. David was a developer and contractor in Montreal Canada during the 80’s and 90’s before moving to Florida. Growing up Joseph learned basic drafting and worked on different construction projects in Miami and Sunny Isles with his father and other family.
Joseph founded Nohmis in 2006. Starting out as a designer and providing drafting services for contractors, designers and owners. During this time Joseph was helping his father with his remodeling business, helping with plan design, accounting and overall management of projects. Joseph was also in school during this time at UCF studying business management.
In 2008, Joseph graduated from UCF and joined forces with father in a more active role in management and design. During the economic downturn of this time Joseph went back to school at FAU for his Civil Engineering Degree. Joseph continued to grow Nohmis and obtained his Certified General Contractor’s license in 2011 and re-branded officially to Nohmis Design & Construction. Joseph graduated in 2012 with his Civil Engineering degree and becoming a certified Engineer Intern. Overall, Nohmis has done over 250 jobs in both small and large scale residential & commercial construction, renovation, design and most recently management.
During the past decade Joseph served as a Structural Inspector at the Ft. Lauderdale Airport Terminal 1 Expansion project. Worked under other engineers expanding and sharpening Architectural, Mechanical, Plumbing, Electric and Structural design skills all while managing projects with Nohmis.
In 2018, Joseph passed the exam and obtained his Professional Engineering license (PE) and officially started offering his professional design services.
2019 was the year that he had to make his tough decision on stopping construction services completely. Since his father David was ready for retirement and Joseph’s passion was not in the daily grind of construction it was the obvious choice to make. During this process though, their clients still wanted to work with Nohmis, so a new service of construction management was born. They boiled down what made them successful as contractors and applied it to creating a management system to manage the work of other contractors. Serving as the owner representatives making sure that projects were completed to Nohmis’ standards.
Joseph currently is happily married with his wife Jennifer, recently born little daughter Mia and not to mention their furry companion Frankie, an energetic golden doodle.
