Not every project stands out, but some do. This was one of those projects.

At NOHMIS, we had the opportunity to engineer a comprehensive signage system for a major, well-known theme park in Orlando, Florida. What made this project particularly rewarding wasn’t just the complexity, it was seeing the designs come to life exactly as intended in the field.

From early coordination to final signed and sealed drawings, this project reflects how thoughtful engineering, attention to detail, and real-world constructability come together to deliver successful results.

Turning Design Intent into Real-World Performance

Every signage project begins with a vision. In this case, the visual concepts were already well-defined—but transforming them into safe, buildable, and code-compliant structures required a deep level of engineering coordination.

Our role was to ensure that each sign regardless of its size, location, or mounting condition could be installed securely and perform reliably over time.

That meant thinking beyond the drawings and focusing on how these systems would behave in real-world conditions.

Designing for Flexibility Across Multiple Conditions

One of the key aspects of this project was the variety of installation scenarios. Signage was not limited to one type of structure, it needed to work seamlessly across different environments.

We developed structural solutions that could adapt to:

  • Existing structural elements
  • Freestanding installations
  • Architectural features and surfaces
  • Light structural components like fences and framed walls

Each condition required careful consideration to ensure proper load transfer, secure connections, and long-term durability without compromising the design intent.

Engineering with Florida in Mind

Designing in Florida always comes with its own set of challenges. Environmental forces, especially wind, play a major role in how structures are engineered.

For this project, we followed strict design criteria aligned with Florida standards, ensuring that every signage system could withstand demanding conditions such as high wind exposure and long-term environmental wear.

Material selection also played a critical role. We prioritized corrosion-resistant materials and durable assemblies that could perform well in humid and outdoor environments.

Attention to Detail That Drives Success

What truly defines a successful project is not just the big picture, but the details behind it.

Throughout the engineering process, we focused on:

  • Clear and constructible connection designs
  • Consistency across different signage types
  • Coordination between materials, fabrication, and installation
  • Ensuring that every component works as part of a complete system

This level of detail helps eliminate uncertainty during construction and allows contractors and fabricators to execute with confidence.

Delivering Permit-Ready Engineering Solutions

A major milestone for any project is reaching the point where everything is ready for permitting. For this project, we delivered a full set of signed and sealed structural plans, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.

These documents serve as the foundation for construction providing clarity, accountability, and a clear path forward for everyone involved.

Seeing Engineering Come to Life

While engineering happens on paper, the most rewarding part is seeing it realized in the field.

This was one of those projects we genuinely enjoyed working on not only because of the technical challenges, but because of the final outcome. Watching the signage installed as designed, performing as intended, is always a reminder of why we do what we do.

Collaboration That Drives Results

Projects like this are always a team effort, and strong partnerships play a key role in delivering successful outcomes.
